Horus saved humanity first. Where’s your originality?
Horus was the shit; lost one of his eyes, killed his father’s murderer AND FUCKED SHIT UP. And he had all of Jesus’ powers also. Beat that shit, J.C.

“Why do you have to go after religion? It gives people comfort, it doesn’t hurt anything”
…Other than most wars, the crusades, the inquisition, 9/11, arraged marriges to minors, blowing up girl schools, the opression of women and homosexuals, fatwas, ethnic cleansing, honour rape, human sacrifice, burning witches, suicide bombings, condoning slavery and the systematic fucking of children…there’s a few little things. - Bill Maher

Dear Concerned Christian,
Thank you for pointing out the seemingly obvious, Yahweh is not the only god, point. Well taken. I am also sorry you have introspectively taken all insults to Christianity as a whole onto your direct person. What a god-complex you have!
It also appears you are looking at atheism as a value system and atheists as a group of its believers. (“Our system is better than yours, nah nah nah!”) Let me correct you. Atheism is not a value system. It is not moral or immoral. Atheism is a rejection of belief in a deity, only. It says nothing at all about the beliefs a person does hold or his/her ethics, morals, or values.
Since you are a Christian then you do not believe in Krishna, Allah, Mithras, the Guatemalan Corn god, or Poseidon. You, too, are an atheist my friend. In the 1st century Romans called Christians “atheists” because they did not worship the Emperor as god. We simply go one god more and reject Yahweh as a being to be followed or feared. That is all atheism is.
Now that we have that out of the way, the problem you have is the way people treat each other. Unfortunately for you, Christianity has done more harm to this world in the last 2000+ years than any other religion. Islam has a looong way to go to reach Christianity’s murder rate, oppression rate and slavery rate. Your religion has done more hateful things in the past 2000 years than every person who has every called themselves an atheist combined.
Rational human beings will continue to call out Christianity for what it is. Horrible. Rational human beings will continue to respect you regardless of your religion. True story. Everything else is irrational and not worth dwelling on as it is in the extreme minority.
Love,
Andrea

GT: All right, since I just wanted to compile my thoughts regarding the matter - here goes.
A lot of times, I’ve often read complaints on my dash beckoning one side or the other for religious tolerance. Christians want their religion to not be persecuted, atheists want their freedom to be who they are.
Fortunately, I have seen some atheists who respect Christian views without hating or demeaning it, as well as Christians who respect atheists and will not pressure them to convert to Christianity. GOOD JOB GUYS. KEEP ON DOING SO.
I mean, the best case scenario would be - everyone would have the right to practice whatever they would want to practice without any form of persecution. So I really admire and respect other people who currently are helping bring about this understanding with both parties.
But of course, this argument is not yet over. We go back to the original problem of people beckoning tolerance on either side. Who should be the first one to budge? I mean, if we keep on beckoning, but no one is actually tolerating anyone - then there is basically no point in even asking.
So with that, let me try to settle some differences here.
On my blog, I always say that I accept and understand atheists’ hatred for Christianity or religion as a whole. It is because there are clear events of violence and hatred that Christians have done/threatened to do in God’s name. Other times, it is through their personal experience that they have also lived through persecution for not having a religion.
Going on to the other side, the Christian hatred. Why do “we” hate atheists? Because they challenge us, they call us “ignorant?” We think that they are stepping down on our rights by removing certain privileges that we once had? The best I’ve heard here is that evolutionists kick out creationists and make them lose their jobs, so let’s consider that to the argument.
I go even further by looking at history. I’m not able to recount the times when an atheist murdered in the name of science - perhaps we could say Hitler, but to be fair, there were also strong elements of Christianity in his Mein Kampf. So Hitler was playing on both sides. But what about the Crusades and the Salem Witch Trials - they were clearly Christian acts of violence, but was there an atheist counterpart?
The only thing that I could think of was the missionary persecution happening in all parts of the world when missionaries were sent to convert people to Christianity. I personally don’t think though that this was a massacre comparing to the Crusades, but more of a defensive strategy played by the respective countries who received these missionaries. I mean, according to what I’ve read/remembered, the ruling bodies felt that Christianity wasn’t needed, that Christianity was a grand brainwashing scheme of the West in order to gain more territory/followers. Correct me if I’m wrong on that point.
So to recall - some atheists hate Christianity because of clear acts of violence/aggression happening today and even in history. Some Christians hate atheists because creationist scientists have been kicked out on their field and lost their jobs.
Maybe I’m missing something here, but clearly atheists have it harder than Christians. This is why we as Christians should be able to deal with their hatred and we should not go around and give them excuses such as, XX was not a real Christian - or so and so.
In Christianity, we need to accept its flaws and not ignore them. In dealing with atheist hatred however, I’m not saying just sit there and accept it, but be mindful that this hatred exists and to tolerate it rather than be quick to call them “close-minded” or “ignorant.” Apologize to them for the heinous crimes that our religion has committed, and do look into their points from time to time - just how you want to be treated with yours.
We as Christians should take the first step in restoring whatever relationship left we have with atheists because we were the ones who destroyed it in the first place. These are my two cents - feel free to challenge me on this point if there were any wrong assumptions.
For the atheists though who hate, there is one point I do not understand - your hatred of people believing in imaginary beings just because they believe in it. I know that it’s not logical for a lot of you, which leaves you frustrated/annoyed at the very least - but hatred? I personally don’t think it would be worth my time to hate someone who has an imaginary friend that doesn’t bother me, so this point might’ve been misinterpreted?
So just to clarify -Assume in this case that everyone believes in evolution. If Christianity were stripped off its harmful elements and the only thing basically that people did was believe (in your case) an imaginary being no conversion whatsoever - would you still hate Christianity in the same light? I understand the ridicule for Christians but - would you still hate?
So there. ._. That’s part 1 at least, for how I feel atheists and Christians get along on the broad level. Part 2 would be tackling on how I see non-Christians and Christians in serious personal relationships.
(^o^)/ Thanks for reading~
Well I haven’t figured out how to do the read more shit.
But yeah so let me give you a little background. I grew up Catholic, right? Then when I was 13, I became an atheist as a side effect of my super emo bullshit personality. Then, when I was 14, my best friend Kelsey told me to come to youth group with her, just to see how I’d like it. And I loved it, I actually started believing in God again. But now lately, I’ve been talking to a bunch of people and reading things on tumblr from people who are atheists, and it just makes so much sense. I feel so horrible, though. It’s like, I feel as if I just let all of this bullshit go, I’ll be letting my friends at youth group down. I even promised I’d come back when it starts back up this fall. But I just have no idea. I’m scared to death that I’m wasting my life believing in something that isn’t real, but I’m just as scared to let it go and find out I was right all along after I die. It seems like such bullshit, am I crazy for thinking so much about this? I just don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know what to believe. Part of me thinks that it’s all imaginary bullshit, but part of me still thinks about miracles and other shit like that.
I just need some people to talk to. An atheist who knows what they’re talking about and a Christian who knows what they’re talking about. Because I can’t keep going back and forth on this forever. It’s driving me crazy.
I would love to give you a point of view from a nie 30 year old, blissfully happy atheist. Married with a nie four year old. Stable relationship for eight years. Respectable, kind and loving human being. All without the promise of heaven or the threat of hell.
… If you still need/would like an atheist perspective. I don’t have all the answers, but truly, that is one of the more wonderful things about life. Learning. <3
